In its fifth year, the national camping event, the Great Aussie Camp Out (GACO) has reached new heights with numbers registered at a record 41,350 people camping out across the Nation.
This year has seen great involvement from a number of groups who have hosted their own public GACO camp-outs including; Outdoors WA, Nature Play WA, Department of Parks and Wildlife (WA), CampKings, Glampin' and The Outdoor Education Group to name a few.
Australian Camps Association CEO, David Petherick, said that “We have known for a long time that Australians enjoy their outdoors, camping and the health benefits that come along with it. It is fantastic to see so many Australian’s camping out. This year I enjoyed camping for GACO in Turkey during my charity trek of the Lycian Way”.
GACO brings together thousands of Australians for one big night where they share the experience of camping out under the stars ... in their back yards, on a river bank, in a camp, a national park, a caravan park - in fact, anywhere they might feel like!
GACO promotes healthy active lifestyles, encouraging individuals, families, friends and clubs to enjoy the great outdoors experiencing the fun and adventure of camping out.
The 2014 GACO has received wonderful support from the Department of Transport, Planning and Infrastructure (VIC), Snowgum, Gondwana and Ezygonow. The support of our state partners is also greatly appreciated.
Prize announcements will be made within the next week.
2015 GACO dates will be announced in the coming days.
