People will be encouraged to camp in their backyards, stay at a residential camp or caravan park, pitch a tent, sleep under the stars, grab a Barbie, organise some games and get away from their normal weekend routine. We see this as a great way to promote the benefits of camps and outdoor adventure activities to the Australian community. GACO will be an annual event in April each year and we expect it to get bigger and bigger each year and to attract a significant amount of publicity across the country. We have in-principle support from most State governments and we have a broad range of partners across the sector – both State and National.

We want all camps to be involved!

We would like all ACA members to get involved in the Great Aussie Camp Out. Here are some of the ways you can help out:

• Encourage those who are staying at your camp on the 17th April 2010 to register their participation in GACO on this website

• Promote GACO to clients and encourage people to participate.

• Become an official GACO campsite.

We are looking for campsites to become official GACO sites! We would like an even geographical spread across each state. It would be appreciated if activities were available for GACO participants to engage in (or external activity providers accessible, eg. scouts, guides, bushwalking, etc).
