Wow, what a fantastic time of year to be in the Adelaide Hills. The autumn colours are at their peak and the Botanical Gardens, of both City and Mt Lofty are stupendous. We would love to stay longer in such a wonderful place but a full schedule of places beckons. We divert for a day to Walker Flat to visit Ankara Youth Camp on the mighty Murray. The river is high and rising! The banks of the Murray at this point tower above the water. It's limestone cliffs are reminiscent of an ancient time, similar to the Nile or areas I have seen along the coast of Turkey. A bit of yabbi catching and we are off to drive north. You forget how the landscape quickly becomes arid and repetitive once you depart the urban sprawl of a city. Once on the outskirts of Adelaide we are travelling with a constant flow of semi-trailers and caravans, my index finger quickly fatiguing from having to acknowledge every passing 'vanner'. We overnight in a quiet, river location not too far from Snowtown (of notoriety for the Snowtown Murders, where up to a dozen bodies had been dismembered and stored in barrels in a bank vault) the night is cold, with open skies, a little taster of what we can expect as we move further north. A quick fuel stop at Port Augusta and onto the Eyre Highway to move westwards towards Perth. A quick attack from a Big Gallah at Kimba then an overnight stop Kyancutta.
